Thought Process Report on Labeling Illustrations And the Zimmerli Practices

I agree that if information is already clearly provided, it should not have to be repeated, especially if it spoils the clean look of the page. All the biographical information could easily be in Shannon's list. Should we include the date of the work as it is pertinent?

I agree that for the images scanned from books, the type of medium would not be needed except in special cases, perhaps if there was a comparison of the visual impression of illustrations in different media.

I do not think provenance is significant except in the case of original art. The description of the Duvoisin Mother Goose materials will include basic information about provenance. I tend to agree this information would not have to be repeated for images used in the Zimmerli pages as long as there is some kind of general statement of acknowledgement, but my draft will have to pass by the registrar and our editor at the Zimmerli. I'm fairly certain all will agree to simplify. I am gathering samples of how we have done documentation in monographs, and I will have her look at how documentation for children's book art is handled in virtual exhibitions such as the de Grummond Ezra Jack Keats site when she returns.

Measurement in inches is fine; we just need to be consistent. This includes choosing H x W or W x H; I know this sounds picky. I believe that some visitors to the site will deeply appreciate knowing the actual size of the original object reproduced on the screen, even if, as in the case of vignettes, the dimensions may be approximate. Of course, that decision is up to Kay.
