VII Journey's End

Virginia Normann
Forest Friendly

Nearing the end of their journey, the weary travelers encountered another forest friendly who had been observing their comings and goings and their need for nourishment of body as well as spirit. She had anticipated their arrival and spread a scrumptious feast out on the trail, enticing the travelers to stop and to reflect on all that had come to pass. They were tired and hungry, but they were glad. While they were resting and eating, still another forest friendly appeared and stopped to hear their stories. Again, fate intervened. It just so happened that this new friend knew all about how peddlers had used Mother Goose to lure story lovers to their various products. This was the final feather.

The Book of Remembering was filled to bursting. The Young Knight took all the travelers had collected and made of it many sparkling balls of magic for the Wizard to juggle. The balls were so splendid and the juggling so clever that huge crowds came to see the show. Each ball told one of the Old Woman's favorite Mother Goose stories, and the crowds were enchanted. Satisfied that their work was done, that the Mother Goose stories would survive, the travelers had a final meal together, and they left for home. They carried with them fond memories of good friends and a job well done.
