Underhill's detailed plans for this house, which she actually constructed of wood, are shown on the endpapers. The watercolor paintings of the various rooms and their inhabitants show an elaborate and privileged lifestyle. Even the well-dressed rat is being served in very elegant surroundings and may be drinking more of the malt than he is eating.
