The Queen of Hearts

Back to the Action – Turn Around, Queen

ECLIPSE Image Number 00380002

In this illustration the “queen’ appears to be queen of only her own kitchen while her “king” presides over the outside of their home. Here the monarch of the dirty dishes wears hearts in various items of her clothing and in her crown. The mop leans against the counter beside her, which is a good thing since she is slopping the soap from her dishwater onto the floor. Her husband is seen through the open door, and a young man (perhaps their son) is slipping away with the pan of tarts. The young thief’s facial expression and the protruding tongue signal his enjoyment of the act itself as well as the treat to come. Could that strange wand make those dirty dishes wash themselves?
