The Queen of Hearts

Grab and Run – The Knave Gets Away

ECLIPSE Image Number 02660000

This sequence of images uses the traditional card motif to illustrate the rhyme. Rectangles (the cards, the window, and the baking sheet) and heart shapes (the tarts, the doorway, the characters’ feet, and the suit designations on the cards) predominate here, as does the color red. The picture is notable for the flatness of all its elements. Look for the rolling pin, the cookie cutter, and the jar of jam in the second image. Where’s the king?
