Cat Saves the Queen - A comic book take on an old rhyme

ECLIPSE Image Number 01260001

Moira and Colin Maclean’s illustration of the pussycat visiting the queen reminds one of a comic strip. The first panel shows the cat in prostration to a regal and content queen. His hat is in hand and his ears are down. In the image below, the queen is standing up on her chair and has dropped her scepter and orb. The cat seems to be quite pleased with himself for chasing the mouse as if he is happy to help the queen. The mouse is looking over his shoulder at the cat as he is heading towards the orb. This may again imply that someone is traitorous and looking to usurp the throne. The cat is the hero because he frightens the usurper away. Taking note of the images on the ribbon above all this, however, one might wonder if the cat might play some part in toppling the crown.
