Pussy Cat, Pussy Cat

Benevolent Queen - A different take on an old rhyme

ECLIPSE Image Number 00420000

Francoise’s take on Pussycat, Pussycat, presents an entirely different point of view. The queen looks kind and benevolent. She is the stereotypical heroine, fair skinned and rosy cheeked with long blonde hair. In this illustration it looks as if the queen is anointing the cat for a job well done. The cat seems to be bowing down. Could he possibly be aware of the mouse seemingly hiding behind the throne? Perhaps the mouse is waiting for the cat to leave before creating a ruckus? There is a simple charm in the stylized folk-like patterns and colors of this image.
