Pussy Cat, Pussy Cat

A Stitch in Time Saves a Queen

ECLIPSE Image Number 01510000

This is really a stylized embroidered sampler with the rhyme in the center rather than an illustration of the rhyme. Typical of much of this form of art, each character is created separately, and there is little interaction represented. Although the pictures are fairly static, the cat does seem to be ready to attack the mouse who has thrown his arms up in despair or fright. The queen with her crown, pearls, and purse – and a slight resemblance to Queen Elizabeth - seems unaware of their presence in her world.
