Oranges and Lemons

Musical Arrangements

Included among the sources is the sheet music to “Oranges and Lemons” as arranged by Music Together, a music program for preschoolers. As noted above, the last (violent) stanza is left out of this version. The rhythm and simple intervals in this arrangement are easy to sing and make the tune sound like a carillon of bells. This arrangement also includes a refrain/harmony of “bong”s, reinforcing the above effect. Music Together’s lullaby-type version is similar to other musical versions available, and very different from the violent rhyme/game presented in many print sources!

Oranges and Lemons is also a square dance dating back to 1665, although any square dance music for it was not located. http://www.rhymes.org.uk/oranges_and_lemons.htm
