Moses Supposes His Toeses Are Roses

Dancing - You'd Dance in the Grass If You Had Roses for Toes

Here Baby Moses is dancing in the grass, smiling at his one foot of roses. His other foot is hidden in the grass, so we do not know whether they are a matching pair. This is clearly a light, fun outing for Moses. He is shown wearing a polka dot t-shirt and striped shorts with his hands held up at his waist. He looks like he's about to play hot-scotch as he looks down at his raised foot with his body leaning forward. Rather than a single rose, as many illustrations have depicted, this Moses does have a posie full of roses where his toes are supposed to be. A posie of roses is another way of referring to a bunch or nosegay of flowers. An archaic definition of the word "posie," however, describes a secret inscription often written inside of jewelry. Maybe this Moses knows something that we do not.
