Little Miss Muffet

How Do You Do? - How Nice of You to Stop By

ECLIPSE Image Number 01680000

This Miss Muffet seems neither frightened nor surprised by the approaching spider. In fact, she seems rather delighted by her visitor, showing no signs of running away or flinging her bowl. Body language further indicates a calm demeanor with her arms and legs firmly in place. Only her wide eyes show surprise and intrigue but no fear. The two characters give the impression of engaging in conversation. Warm greens and smooth yellows coupled with a rolling backdrop of hills ease the tension that can sometimes accompany this meeting. The spider, although over-sized, is certainly not frightening. Even though she is alone here, there is no sense of helplessness in this Miss Muffet. Look closely at what she is sitting on.
