Little Miss Muffet

Cooling It - Things May Heat Up Soon

ECLIPSE Image Number 00290000

Rackham's soft, muted colors create a dreamlike affect, while a delicate Miss Muffet innocently cools off her spoonful of food. The viewer is aware, however, of the potential of imminent danger. The fact that the spider is creeping up from behind conveys an ominous tone. Despite the soft tones, the delicacy of the watercolors, and the fact that the spider is sporting a top hat; there is a sense of impending doom. The large spider web behind Miss Muffet's head is both beautiful and threatening.
