Little Miss Muffet

More Than He Bargained For! This Spider Is Definitely Unhappy

ECLIPSE Image Number 00840004 ECLIPSE Image Number 00840000

In the first of these illustrations, Miss Muffet seems calm, perhaps somewhat quizzical, and concerned about protecting her bowl. The second image shows no signs of Little Miss Muffet. She seems to have taken action and is now gone. This spider has fallen, or perhaps has been thrown, into the curds and whey and is not at all amused. He sports a human-like face with expressions that reveal disgust and frustration. Looking at these images, there is an interesting contrast of color. The soft green, yellow, and blue convey a quiet calm while the lack of color and background and the strong lines and details in the second picture focus attention on the poor spider and his fate.
