Georgie Porgie, Puddin’ and Pie

 Who's Kissed? Who's Crying?

ECLIPSE Image Number 00510000

This rather sweet illustration in a pastoral setting shows Georgie Porgie kissing a girl while three other doll-like female figures stand in the path crying. It is a bright sunny afternoon, and it seems as if the children are walking home from the school situated at the top of the path. The little girls are dressed in pastel pinks, blues, and yellows with white aprons or overskirts. Georgie is not unattractive or unappealing. The girl he is kissing doesn't seem to be shocked or annoyed by his actions; she's not resisting his advances. The other girls seem distressed but aren't running for help; they're simple standing there crying. The other boys mentioned in the rhyme are not depicted, but a rabbit watches the scene as he rests upright on a log. Look closely for all the curved lines and for the flowers that have the appearance of eyeballs ready to watch Georgie's behavior.
