A Frog He Would A-Wooing Go

Romance in the City – From New York to Paris

ECLIPSE Image Number 03250000 ECLIPSE Image Number 03250001

This modern NYC “Froggie went a-courting, he did ride/ A taxicab to the Upper West Side.” There Ms. Mouse accepts his proposal over the objections of Aunty Rat who opposes a mixed marriage to “A slimy frog – he’s not our kind!” Nonetheless, preparations for the wedding go on, involving such NYC landmarks as the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, Chinatown, and various bridges and tunnels. The wedding party, all but Auntie Rat, escapes from an uninvited guest (a big black cat) by jumping on board the Circle Line. Tears are shed for Auntie, but it is pointed out, opposite a picture of the cat licking his chops, that “Aunt Rat at last made someone smile.” The bright and bold colors and the vertical lines of this first image capture the spirit of city life. The checkered cab, driven by a member of the chicken family, even sports an evergreen deodorizer hanging from its mirror. The final image shows the “happily ever after,” as the newlyweds enjoy themselves in the City of Lights.
