Pat-A-Cake, Pat-A-Cake

Playing with Kitty - A Cat Joins the Game

ECLIPSE Image Number 00540000

This version of Pat-a-cake shows a child sitting on a patch of grass facing a cat and clapping the rhyme. The illustration is completely removed from the content or story of the rhyme. Rather it illustrates the common practice of playing a hand game while reciting the rhyme, this time with a cat instead of a parent or caregiver. The soft, warm colors and the curved line of the text tie the two characters together and create the same loving connection between child and pet as we ordinarily see between child and parent in images of this rhyme.
