On the Bank - An Emotional and Charming Picture

ECLIPSE Image Number 00980001

This illustration shows a mother and child sitting together at the bank of a river. It is a peaceful, idyllic scene with ducks floating in the water. A calm and soothing atmosphere is created by soft colors and flowing lines. There are beautiful washes of color, such as the grass in the forefront and the bushes on the far bank in various shades of green. The eye follows the diagonal line of the river to find the child nestled in the lap of the mother, who is shown grasping the child's hands, appearing to clap them together. The focus of this illustration is to represent the emotional connection that is created between a caregiver and a child when playing “Pat-A-Cake. There is the physical closeness that expresses affection and the enjoyment in playing the game together. The actual text is secondary to the emotional bond of the hand game.
