Bye Bye Bunting

Back to the Hunt – Safe Rabbits

ECLIPSE Image Number 01880001

This illustration is quite different from the others. A colorful watercolor, it is missing both the baby and the rabbit skin wrapping. What we do have here is an unflattering rear view of the hunter and safe rabbits observing him from behind. The exterior setting has a winter in New England look to it and a comforting feeling that the rabbit community will escape unscathed.

The color of the man’s trousers connects him to the house in the rear of the picture. The bird on the right is breaking out of the frame of the picture and seems to be looking on the scene with the same amusement viewers will experience. This is an appealing image although it is not terribly specific to the rhyme.
