Betty Botter Bought Some Butter
Effectiveness - Better Batter Makes Betty Better

Although she is wearing an apron, the solitary figure of Betty is not
shown in the kitchen. Indeed, with her pointy hat, pointy chin, pointy
shoes, and floating dress, Betty looks more like a benevolent fairy, or
Mother Goose herself, descending from above with the clearly-labeled Better
Butter in hand. Her smile demonstrates her satisfaction with herself for
obtaining the better butter. The last two lines of the rhyme, “So
‘twas better Betty Botter bought a bit of better butter” seems
to contain a value judgment. That is, if Betty does not buy the better
butter for her batter, she is not a better Betty. However, Betty did the
right thing, and this makes her a good woman. Bravo, Betty! Note the positions
of her feet and the details and patterns in her clothing and in the background.
