A Diller, a Dollar

A Blithe Spirit

ECLIPSE Image Number 01360000

By 1980 our scholar appears to be not at all intimidated by the teacher’s distress over his lateness. He blithely strolls into the classroom while the teacher points to the time on the wall clock. Their clothing implies a nineteenth-century American setting. The teacher is clearly prim and proper with a high-collar ruffled blouse, a cinched-waist dress, and a neat bun for her hair. The young scholar, on the other hand, looks a bit rumpled and his bright red hair and unaffected demeanor imply that he might be something of a rascal. In any event, he is clearly unperturbed by her chastisement.
