Goals of Project ECLIPSE
This original project addressed several primary and related goals in
an effort to explore how best to design information technology for professional
education.
- To elaborate and refine a preliminary model of the methodology for
the design of educational websites (Mother Goose: A Scholarly Exploration)
extrapolated from extensive experience in website development.
- To construct a dissemination model of the ECLIPSE methodology for
professionals interested in website design and development through the
creation of a parallel website which links the model to specific exemplars
within the Mother Goose Project site. (Architecture and Patterns: In
the Shadow of the Goose)
- To explore alternative possibilities of web-based technologies to
enhance the availability of rare literary resources as well as to compile
the larger frame of historical and educational data surrounding the
analysis, evaluation, and use of the Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes.
Subsequently, the ECLIPSE team decided to expand beyond the Mother Goose
project to make other unique resources in children's literature available
to site users. The Petra Project documents the creation of both images
and text, through many revisions, of one particular picture book. Through
the study of these materials, one can "look in on" the creative
process, trace the changes made, and consider how both the author/illustrator's
personal history and the demands of the media and of the publishing firm
influenced the final form of this picture book.
